ABSTRACT

Methods: This is a case series, carried out from March to July 2020, with data recorded in the nutritional monitoring records of patients hospitalized with COVID-19. The variables analyzed were: demographic (age and sex);clinical (comor-bidities, underlying disease and outcome), anthropometric, biochemical and nutritional support. Results: The sample consisted of 102 patients, 65.7% had the severe acute respiratory syndrome, the main underlying disease observed was heart disease (23.5%) and 69.3% of patients were discharged from the ICU. Regarding nutritional variables, approximately 50% of patients received enteral feeding and 73.3% started early. Concerning biochemical markers, patients who died had higher C-reactive protein (CRP)/albumin ratios (p=0.024) and CRP concentrations (p=0.012) when compared to those who progressed to dis-charge from the ICU. In addition, it is observed that the eld-erly (adjusted HR = 3.62;95%CI 1.19 - 10.97) and early ini-tiation of enteral nutritional therapy (adjusted HR = 10.62;95%CI 2.41 - 46 .87) were factors related to ICU discharge. Conclusion: Monitoring the inflammatory process using different markers seems to be a good parameter for the clinical evolution of these patients. In addition, the benefits of early enteral nutrition therapy may be associated with better clinical outcomes and reduced complications during hospitalization.

ABSTRACT

Studies on students' motivation to learn Chemistry in developed countries are largely common in the literature. However, very few studies have been carried out with a view to investigating students' motivation to learn Chemistry in places like Latin America, and specifically in Brazil. The present study sought to translate the Chemistry Motivation Questionnaire II (CMQ-II) with a view to evaluating the motivation to learn Chemistry among Brazilian high school students. The study was conducted using responses obtained from 510 high school students who completed the CMQ-II during the COVID-19 pandemic. Exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis and analysis of model invariance between genders were carried out in order to compare the results obtained with those of the other studies conducted using the CMQ-II. The results obtained from this investigation showed that the CMQ-II had a five-factor structure with factor loadings >= 0.52 and Cronbach's alpha >= 0.81. Multivariate analysis was also carried out with respect to gender differences, and the results obtained showed that Brazilian boys had higher confidence when it comes to learning Chemistry, while the girls mostly studied Chemistry to obtain a good grade or because of the importance of the discipline in their imagined future career. The findings show that the Brazilian version of CMQ-II applied in this study seems to provide a consistent scale of analysis compared to that reported in the literature.

ABSTRACT

This essay brings reflections on teaching work based on the main theoretical approaches to teacher professionalism, highlighting its cognitive and socioaffective dimensions. The cognitive dimension refers to the acquisition of content knowledge based on curriculum programs and the socio-affective dimension refers to the identification of socio-affective aspects that interfere in student relationships and learning. Based on this differentiation, we analyse the daily work developed by teachers in the classroom, emphasizing the interdisciplinary character of each function as complementary aspects of teaching practices, the complexities of teaching and new challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic.

ABSTRACT

This article aims to analyze the educational conditions of teachers from municipal public schools in the Region of the Inconfidentes - MG, in view of digital inclusion in the pandemic period. For this purpose, it made analytical efforts based on thematic discussion sessions with basic education teachers, municipal managers and union leaders, belonging to the municipal education network in the region. The results found point to: 1) the absence of teacher training and technological apparatus for the use of remote education;2) the importance of its own municipal education network, oriented and articulated from the interaction, collaboration and representation of those involved;3) the need for greater critical-analytical understanding of the proposals for digital inclusion, linked to overcoming poverty and social inequalities;4) the absance of autonomy of the municipalities, revealed by the lack of their own education networks and significant dependence on the State.

ABSTRACT

This essay presents a critical analysis of teachers' professional identity within the context of assessments in the period marked by the COVID-19 pandemic. Considerations were made regarding the evaluation of students during the specific dynamics of a process marked by sensitive changes in the universe of Brazilian education in 2020 and 2021. The reinvention of teaching practice was highly needed, which sparks off a debate surrounding the teacher's role in the changes of assessment practices. In this sense, the fine line between teaching and learning is questioned, changing the aforementioned "formula" for the conduction of activities and the reception of answers, in view of an unbridled search for attendance, and not for systemic learning. The considerations point to a necessary dialogue about the relationship between the teaching profession and assessment.

ABSTRACT

Objective: to reflect on the dying process and death of patients with Covid-19 in the light of spirituality. Development: Amid the pandemic caused by the new Coronavirus, we once again face the feared death, with an aggravating factor: increasing number of deaths characterized by the lack of opportunity for the individuals to say goodbye to their loved ones, dying patients accompanied only by health professionals, and bodies taken directly to the cemeteries. It is worth discussing here an element through which most people seek strength: spirituality. Final considerations: Understanding the sense of spirituality on the part of health professionals, in search of support for dying patients and bereaved families is important, as spirituality can be a potential factor of integration and harmonization of interpersonal relationships. © 2020, Universidade Federal do Parana.
